Malamute Portrait in Progress

I've been working on my painting of Voxy, the Malamute from Alaska. She has such deep, beautiful fur and I've been using many layers of color to try and show the texture.

Here's my progress so far:

I started with some very thin pinks and purples to map out the features of her face. Next, I marked in the areas of high contrast in black to define her eyes, nose, mouth and ear tips.

Next, I worked on her eyes with some thin layers of Burnt Umber Light and Yellow Ochre. For her pupils, I used Carbon Black, but also added some touches of Payne's Grey (actually a blue-black) to give the eyes more depth.

To achieve the texture of her fur, I used a fairly large angle shader brush. I used sweeping strokes, keeping the brush fairly dry for the right texture.
